For the past 15 years Carlos Grijalva Eternod has been at has been supporting essential humanitarian research in the Sahrawi camps through the Global Health and Epidemiological departments at UCL. His research has had a huge impact and has shaped policy on how the international community of NGO’s that are working in the camps interact with and help to maintain the extraordinary survival of a stranded people living in the Sahara desert.

Between the dates of 30 May and 6 June 2025, Carlos was able to invite Paulina Serrano Tama and UAL artist practitioner Daniel Saul to travel with him to Tinduf in Algeria and the Sahrawi refugee camps and on a fact finding mission. Although the visit was short it made a huge impact upon Paulina and Daniel. They met many key workers and agencies and were given a glimpse into an extraordinary world.

Initial findings were presented at UCL in July 2025.
