After the British left India, Anglo-Indians fell from grace. And Morris Jelly dropped like a stone. He hit the filthy streets of Calcutta in all their hallucinogenic splendour and life became a dream. Even in death his mercurial spirit runs rings around his friends.

This film grew out the experience Daniel had after visiting Calcutta with his father. Daniel was 18 and his father had not returned to his native city for more than 20 years. On that trip they discovered many relatives who had fallen on hard times. Post-Indian-Independence Anglo Indians seemed to be living amongst the crumbling ruins of their former homes.

Years later Daniel returned to Calcutta and discovered the true story of the life and death of Morris Jelly an Anglo-Indian down and out. An Australian doctor Peter Donald, who was working in a voluntary street side clinic and knew Morris well, narrates the film.

The project was a labour of love. Like the streets of Calcutta it is cobbled together from all sorts of found, begged, borrowed and stolen ideas, artefacts and technologies. A combination of lo and hi-tech film techniques, The Morris Jelly House of Fashion contains more than 5000 hand painted images.
