A BRIDE FOR THE MOON

WORK IN DEVELOPMENT

We are designing an interactive AR book to tell the story of our character Chandini. This is work in development

Chandini is about to take the most important journey of her life. The one her parents have been preparing her for every day. She is about to be married, to a man she has yet to meet. And though, her marital home is only a short distance away … she might as well be travelling to the moon.

When we met space engineers in India designing a lunar rover, they insisted upon referring to their creation as “she”. They also explained to us why their mission must be one way. Whilst they planned to send a small delicate machine 400,000 kilometres to the Moon, they knew they did not have the resources to bring her back.

Our collaborative partner – dancer Hemabharathy Palani – was quick to notice a parallel. She told us that in India when a young woman moves from the home of her birth family to live in her husband's house her parents will often say;
“she will only ever return to us … as ashes.”
