WINTER.

TRIPTYCH DOCUMENTARY PORTRAIT 36 MINUTES

Winter is a film about Mandy King-Holmes. Mandy is 50 years old. She lives in York, has two children and four dogs. Mandy also has terminal lung cancer.

A delicate, filmed portrait of a person at the end of their life, Mandy gave full and generous commitment to the project and was extraordinarily good humoured and open, talking about the numerous challenges she overcame as a child, an adult and a parent.

Winter was commissioned as one quarter of Quarantine Theatre’s “Summer. Autumn. Winter. Spring.” an epic quartet of performances about the human life-cycle and our relationship with time. The other three pieces were live performances made up of casts of ordinary people. Making Winter. as a film was an opportunity to focus on a close up; a portrait of just one person.

Summer. Autumn. Winter. Spring. premiered in March 2016 at The Old Granada Studios, Manchester the former home of Coronation Street. Winter. was produced as a super wide-screen projection, incorporating diptych and triptych to depict the complexities of a life.

A stand alone film version was completed in 2018.

‘quietly, determinedly brilliant’ — The Stage

‘by far the most successfully realised component of the sequence.… a quietly moving tribute’ — The Guardian
